Interactive Installation
Petite Flamme
This project aims to demonstrate my skills in designing and communicating a creative or artistic message through the production of an interactive digital project prototype.
Year :
2025
Industry :
Interactive Installation
Client :
Collège de Bois-de-Boulogne
Project Duration :
5 weeks

OBJECTIVE :
Create a working prototype of an interactive project that communicates an original creative or artistic message :
• Offer a form of interaction with the audience (e.g., tactile, vocal, gestural, digital).

INITIAL IDEA AND INTENT:
You enter a dark room. At the back, you hear the sound of an ambient cave. A man seems to be striking rocks against each other. A flame lights up and illuminates a cave containing cave art. You hear the wind, birds singing, and drops falling on rock. A message appears telling you to extinguish the flame. You blow, everything goes black, a star in a starry sky dies, and the sound fades away.
Gradually, a sound becomes clearer and clearer: people talking and laughing, children screaming, a lighter trying to light it. Suddenly, a candle on a cake lights up, you see a house filled with party decorations, and birthday music is being sung. You blow out the candle, everything goes black, a star in a starry sky dies, and the sound fades away.
Each flame you light transports you to a new scene delineated in time: a medieval war with arrows from a flaming bow, the takeoff of a rocket that burns a blade of grass, a fireplace in a house on Christmas Eve, a nuclear explosion. You end the scene by blowing out the flame, and you'll see the stars in a starry sky die one by one after each scene.
Challenge :
I started by defining the dark and lonely atmosphere I wanted to convey. Then, I looked for inspiration on Pinterest and Google to build my scenes. I did some rough blocking, then added the 3D objects and lighting. A technical challenge was the rocket's VFX fire, which I ultimately recreated in post-processing.

Summary :
My main role was to contribute ideas for the concept and scenes. I also helped give creative direction to the experience and imagine how it would unfold in the installation space in a cohesive and immersive way.
I helped organize the work among the team members and also participated in decisions about the scenes. I was there to discuss ideas, help others when things got stuck, and ensure everything moved forward in the right order. I created the PowerPoint presentation to visually structure our presentation, and I also divided the parts of the presentation among the team members.
I learned to collaborate better in a creative setting, to listen to others' idea and adjust my own to fit the project well. Working in a team also showed me the importance of good communication and a clear division of responsibilities to avoid confusion.
I also learned to better manage my time and remain more consistent in my productivity. This project also helped me develop a critical eye for my own ideas, to ensure they contribute to the desired atmosphere and fit into a coherent overall vision.
Finally, I reviewed my TouchDesigner skills in the context of interactive installations. I also developed my ability to create immersive scenes with a strong atmosphere, considering aesthetics, sound, and the overall experience. Interacting with the audience was also a new aspect for me.
